Holstein Conversion Equations Based on Population Variances and a Full-Brother Model
نویسنده
چکیده
A full-brother method was used to develop conversion equations that predict US Holstein ETA for milk, fat, and protein yields from French EBV. Regression coefficients were ratios of genetic standard deviations of sires for the two populations adjusted for the genetic correlation between countries. Based on data from full brothers, the regression coefficients were used to determine the base differences of countries (intercepts), scaled to the variation in the importing country. Full-brother equations also were developed to convert evaluations from Canada and The Netherlands to a US equivalent so that the full-brother method could be compared with traditional methods. Genetic correlation with the US was assumed to be .9 for French data and 1.0 for data from Canada and The Netherlands. Standard deviations for the populations were computed from nearly 5900 US bulls and about 2000 bulls from' each of the other countries. The US had 178 full-brother families in common with France, 123 in common with Canada, and 46 in common with The Netherlands. For conversion of Canadian evaluations to a US equivalent, regression coefficients from the fullbrother method were 20% lower than from the Goddard method and 25% lower than from the Wilmink method. Estimation of quantitative trait loci parameters for milk production traits in German Holstein dairy cattle population.
The main objective of this study was to estimate the proportion of total genetic variance attributed to a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on Bos taurus autosome 6 (BTA6) for milk production traits in the German Holstein dairy cattle population. The analyzed chromosomal region on BTA6 spanned approximately 70 cM, and contained 6 microsatellite markers. Milk production data were obtained from rout...
متن کاملGenetic parameters and trends in the Chilean multibreed dairy cattle population.
Estimates of additive and nonadditive multibreed co-variance components, genetic parameters, and predicted genetic values for first lactation 305-d mature equivalent (ME) milk yield, fat yield, and protein yield were computed using data from a sample of 3316 cows from the Chilean Holstein-other breeds multibreed population. Variances and covariances were estimated by 2-trait REML analyses using...
متن کاملInvestigation of country bias in international genetic evaluations using full-brother information.
International Bull Evaluation Service evaluations from May 2005 were examined for country bias by comparing Holstein full-brother families. Countries with > or =25 bulls in multicountry full-brother families were included. The model fit evaluations of US estimated breeding values (EBV) by absorbing full-brother family and producing solutions for country of brothers. For yield and somatic cell s...
متن کاملVariances and covariances of identity coefficients of a multigene family.
By using a model of gene conversion for treating concerted evolution of multigene families, a theory for calculating the variances and covariances of identity coefficients has been developed. Six coefficients on triple identity and 15 coefficients on quadruple identity are needed. The variances and covariances are obtained from the quadruple identity coefficients and divided into within-populat...
متن کاملMarginal Analysis of A Population-Based Genetic Association Study of Quantitative Traits with Incomplete Longitudinal Data
A common study to investigate gene-environment interaction is designed to be longitudinal and population-based. Data arising from longitudinal association studies often contain missing responses. Naive analysis without taking missingness into account may produce invalid inference, especially when the missing data mechanism depends on the response process. To address this issue in the ana...
